Royal flush: Poker becomes a hot hand around the country

I've just killed an entire Saturday night, watching not one....not two, but THREE different TV poker shows. Deep into game one, when it was down to two minor actors battling it out, brother--in-law Eric walked past and said "that may be the most boring show in the history of TV."

Aucontraire, brother, TV poker is RED HOT....the question is why? Why am i watching this stuff??

Reality Shows? Who needs 'em!

Offering a brief respite from the recent plethora of politics is a little tidbit about real life vs. reality shows. Is art imitating life, or is life imitating art?

Something that doesn't happen every day

This afternoon, I was working on some German homework, and I wound up idly flipping through my German-English dictionary. Under the entry for können, I noticed the phrase kann das explodieren? which translates as "Could it explode?"

So I say to myself, out loud, "Yeah, because that'll come up often in casual conversation."

And then I notice that the next phrase is man kann nie wissen, which means "you never know."

I think I just had a two-way conversation with a bilingual dictionary.

Saudi-U.S. ties improving despite 9-11

I wonder what Mr. al-Jober thinks now of the "more clarity, transparency and frankness in (our) relations, in the sense that we tell each other you are wrong and mistaken" in light of the news that the New York Port Authority has joined a lawsuit charging Saudi Arabia with providing financial assistance to al Qaeda?

Cheney Says eBay Numbers Missed In Economic Figures

Nice reply by the trial lawyer Edwards: "If we only included bake sales and how much money kids make at lemonade stands, this economy would really be cooking."

Mark it on your calendars...Tuesday, October the 5th up at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, the only VP debate this year. It should be quite a show.

The Trials of OB-GYN Doctors

They are, according to Bush, unable to properly practice across the country. It never occured to me that my own ob-gyn would like to be all cuddly-wuddly... and what's this business about Bush being all for medical liability now? Why not last year? The year before? Heck, pre-2000 election times?

If this man is incapable of saying anything without a speech card, imagine if he has to handle an incoming missle crisis. One misspoken word, and we're toast.

John Kerry Is a Douchebag, But I'm Voting For Him Anyway

I give this guy the award for Best URL of the Year. And, the title of the site more or less sums up my feelings about Kerry, although I don't agree with everything the guy writes on his site. It is sort of fun to read something that hasn't been polished up by one side or the other's spin doctors for once, though.

Russia puts price on Chechen rebels' heads

"Russia's chief of general staff, Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky, reasserted Russia's right to mount "preventive strikes" against terrorists abroad. "We will take all measures to liquidate terrorist bases in any region of the world," the senior military official said."

Sounds very familiar, doesn't it?

Cheney: Terror Attack If Kerry Elected

If Kerry were elected, Cheney said the nation risks falling back into a "pre-9/11 mind-set."

And just who was president on 9/10/2001?
And for the year and 2/3rds before that?

Anyway, what is Cheney's point? That there won't be any more attacks on US soil if he and Bush get a reprieve? I would think that one who was VP on September the 11th and stood at Ground Zero afterwards would be sufficiently humbled not to make such statements.

Indiana University study: having children significantly lowers parents’ IQs

Ouch...not just lowers, but lowers IQ's "significantly." What does that say about us with seven kids??

The women with death at their fingertips - martyrs or victims?

The unique story of a Chechnyan ‘Black Widow.’ Unique because she's the only one they've captured. While we're on the subject, let's flip half way around the world to Australia where a pro-Bush columnist does not want to hear the words "insurgents" or "separatists" when describing the killers who sent all of those Russian kids to their deaths.
