William Safire: On Language
Interesting how slang evolves:
Today's "Fo'shizzle, I'm going to get hella crunk tonight" was in 1967 "Man, I'm going to get blitzed {or 'wasted'} tonight."

South Florida Sun Sentinel: Parents upset after priest tells students Santa Claus doesn't exist
This was quite an issue in our family about 20 years ago when one of my sisters discovered that we told our kids the truth about Santa Claus. We've held to that and just last week I overheard an older kid telling a younger one the awful truth, which I did confirm.

Women Protest Airline Patdowns
I had to go through this exact same procedure recently and while I wasn't thrilled about it, neither did I feel like I was being groped or indecently touched. The woman was brisk and professional and obviously just doing her job. I would much rather see procedures like this continue than take the chance that some nut as found a way to sneak explosives or such onto a plane - witness the shoe bomber. And when my mother expressed annoyance that my elderly, arthritic father had to take off his shoes to walk through the scanner, I pointed out he's exactly the type that would be a good weapons carrier - who would suspect a stooped old man? If you don't like it, don't fly - take the train, drive, take the bus, but don't sue because people are trying to keep you safe!

Canada's National Post: The season that could have been
The Post has it's own fantasy hockey thing going, their computers figuring out each game that was on the schedule. They have my Wings at 8-9-2 at this point in the season and have no Wings in the top 20 scorers, nor any in any of the other stats. Surely things wouldn't have been that bad!

NY Times: Beyond the Swing Set
Couldnt figure out a way to link directly to the javascript slideshow that the link leads to. You'll have to find the 'Swing Set' link yourself and then click on it to see these neat playgrounds.
