ICE your cell phone today!

ICE (In Case of Emergency) makes it easier for crisis workers to find the best next-of-kin contact via your cell phone if something happens to you. A pity it took the London bombings for the idea to catch on, but better late than never.

My contact list is set up alphabetically and I have DW's name 1st. I merely inserted the letter "A" before her name, making it the 1st name that showss up on the list.

Not everyone does that, so a standardized ICE entry will help emergency medical workers a great deal. When they see the first name on your list, they have no way of knowing whether that's your next-of-kin, your boss, your elderly grandmother or even your doctor. I'd much rather help emergency medical workers feel less pressured by by being able to find an ICE number on my cellphone - there are times where every second counts.

I have a few questions. What if your contact person is Ice-T or Vanilla Ice? How should you text that? What if your cell phone is blown up, but you aren't? What if you are over your alloted minutes on your cell plan? Who pays the overage charges, especially if you are blast pizza? It wasn't you making the call, right?

I'm going to toss this suggestion into the bin along with all the other quasi-useful safety tips. Sounds good enough, but probably of very little practical value.

"What if your contact person is Ice-T or Vanilla Ice?"

Then you have problems that a rescue crisis worker just isn't going to be able to solve.

You'd best not be disrespecting my peeps, Jan.

Speaking of Peeps, did you know that if you put one in the microwave for a few minutes, it will actually explode? Fun experiment for the kids next Easter!
