Kim Jong-Il Hailed as Superhero
Yeah, yeah, and Mao swam the Yangtze in record times and Stalin was hung like a horse. When you start hearing crap like this it's time to start worrying. You're dealing with a nut.

This sounds, I hate to say, typically Korean, North or South. I work with many nationalities and by far, the Koreans are better at everything and most around them are there to serve or be tolerated.
There are, of course, exceptions (from everywhere!) and many lovely, humble people who are very aware of their capabilities.
Having said all that, most S. Koreans I have talked to are scared to death of the power and influence this man has and how he decrees photos of himself must hang in every home in N. Korea, etc.
As Ed, said, a definate nut case.

Koreans would know how to spell 'definite', even if English were their second language. I'm guessing that Koreans adopt that attitude in Canada because they know that Canadians are spineless and will put up with it, in the interests of 'tolerance and diversity'. Next time, challenge one to a fistfight, Bren, and see what happens.
As to the claims about Kim's golf prowess, I think that there may have been some honest confusion in the to translation. What they meant to say is: During his first-ever round of golf, Kim managed to shoot 11 holes-in-one-opponent.

!! holes in one opponent...now that is funny stuff!

c'mon, BIL, I have come to expect far sharper barbs from you and if a spelling error was all you could come up with, I am truely disappointed.
The lil dig at tolerance and diversity doesn't merit a comment.
and the 11 holes in one IS funny!!! :)
(hits the spell check before posting)

Yeah, the spelling thing was a little weak. Are you saying it's not true, Bren? You seem to be tolerating the hell out of your Islamic terrorist cells.

BIL, "You seem to be tolerating the hell out of your Islamic terrorist cells." You make this a statement directed at me personally.
I am not tolerating the terrorist cells. That would be our government and some outdated "freedoms and rights" that have to be re-thought. I admit, Canada is far more tolerant of cultures, etc than some countries; but do not confuse that with those of us who are truly worried about the terrorist threat and abhor the goings on of these cells.

Obviously, I meant 'you' as in 'Canada', Bren. However, isn't your government elected by the citizenry?
Posted by: BIL at August 5, 2005 01:24 PM
So's ours, and I vote in every single election, and yet mysteriously there are lots of government policies that I disagree with. How odd.

I think there is a difference in relative importance between one's opinion regarding school bond issues and one's feelings about giving safe harbor to groups openly dedicating to killing your fellow citizens and destroying your society, wouldn't you say, Jan? Besides, from what I have seen, your disagreements are usually wrong.:-).

Well, my point was that regardless of what your personal feelings are, even the fact that you live in a democratic society doesn't mean that all your personal feelings are going to be reflected in the policies of the current government. But maybe I misunderstood your comment about "isn't your government elected by the citizenry?"

Of course that is true, Jan. My point is that I don't see a lot of pressure applied by the citizens of Canada on their government to take action. That's why the crack about 'tolerance and diversity'. Canadian society is strangling itself with 'tolerance and diversity'. If Hezbollah opened up a branch office in the States as they have in Canada, we'd be screaming our heads off, and thank goodness. This is, in my opinion, the most frightening aspect of socialism; this "government knows best and will make everything all right" mentality. In my view, the sooner Canada gets with it, the better things will go, and the less casualties there will ultimately be. I don't want to see Canadians die being politically correct. It would be shameful and embarassing. Time to act like a good neighbor, Canada. I hope that not for one minute do you think you are immune from attack. You are just as much a target as the US and England are.
