Marijuana might cause new cell growth in the brain
Surprised our 17 year old hasn't told us about this one.

Richard Pryor dead at 65
Little doubt he was brilliant. His 70's comedy albums were hilarious and his concert movies awesome. Unlike George Carlin, for instance, Pryor had a vulnerability and a unique self-deprecatory method which seemed to defuse his anger. He was, of course, the lead-in for comics like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle.
I also see that former Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy has also passed. He ran for president in '68, and won New Hampshire, as I recall. When Bobby Kennedy saw how successful McCarthy was, he jumped in and quickly gobbled up the movement. After Bobby was killed McCarthy once again became the anti-war candidate. I recall going down to Tiger Stadium to see him in a benefit that summer. Fifteen thousand were there, about the same amount as at a Tiger's game. We really went down, though, to see John Lee Hooker, if truth be told. He rocked.

It's batty: Big testicles mean tiny brains
I don't know. Comparing humans to bats seems a bit, well, batty!

Ogre to Slay? Outsource It to Chinese
The Times reports on the games-playing factories in China. Workers there play multi-leveled computer games for Westerners who dont have the time to play their favorite multi-level online game . This gives me an idea....we could outsource InfinteComments!

Jetliner slides off runway at Midway Airport
Yikes, a Southwestern airliner crashed the fence and hit a car out on Central Ave? We were just up there two months ago, but I drove while DW and four of our lil' ones flew in on S'western, an airline which, by the way, has never lost a passenger, though they did have another plan crash the fence in Kansas City, I believe, six or seven years ago.

Kids need to eat more veggies. News at 11.
This article professes shock -- shock! -- that there aren't more vegetarian entree items on most restaurants' kids' menus. Hey, news flash: there aren't that many vegetarian entrees for adults, either. That's because a lot of people like to eat meat with their dinner.
We go out to eat with our kids a fair amount, and have never yet found a restaurant that didn't have a pretty good selection of vegetables available as side items on the kids' menu.

Another one bites the dust
Washington state becomes the most recent locale to ban smoking in public, a trend in public-supported government nannyism that I for one am not happy about. I don't smoke, don't care to smell smoke when I'm eating, and don't really like washing the smell of smoke out of my clothes, but none of that trumps the right of a business owner to let people smoke in his own damn establishment if he (or she) so chooses. Or at least, it didn't used to.
